Ends & Entries ist eine Reihe von fünfzehn siebenminütigen Stücken, die von internationalen (Klang-)KünstlerInnen speziell für das Radio entwickelt wurden. Die Stücke führen in fünf Städte im Übergang: Liverpool, Marseille, Gdansk, Napoli and Istanbul.
Ends & Entries ist Teil des 'Cities on the edge'-Partnerprogramms. Das Projekt wurde von Etienne Noiseau für Radio Grenouille, das freie Kulturradio von Marseille, im Rahmen der Künstlerresidenz Liverpool'08 kuratiert und wird Ende November 2008 auf internationalen Kultursendern ausgestrahlt.
Ends & Entries handelt von Städten, die als "Enden" und "Eingänge" zu Europa verstanden werden können: Sie alle haben grosse Häfen, sind von einer langen und wechselvollen Geschichte geprägt - und, wenn man so will, eher zum internationalen Raum hin offen als in ihre jeweiligen Heimatländer intergriert. Ihre Bevölkerung setzt sich aus den unterschiedlichsten Nationen zusammen. Und sie alle sind Industriestädte im Niedergang, die versuchen, neu Atem zu schöpfen - nicht zuletzt mit Kulturprojekten.
Gemeinsamer Ausgangspunkt für die Stücke ist die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Spannungsfeld von Tradition und Übergang im Zeichen der Migration, wie es inbesondere im Umgang mit Musik und Küche greifbar wird: Musik und Küche sind Stifter und Mittler kultureller Identität, die wir alle mit uns und in uns tragen, miteinander teilen und mit dem mischen, was wir an den jeweiligen Orten auffinden, an denen wir leben.
In jeder der fünf Städte des Projekts haben KünstlerInnen an diesem Komplex gearbeitet und stellen im Rahmen von "Ends & Entries" ihre Sicht auf ihre Stadt in Form einer siebenminütigen Klangreise vor, zu der sie die RadiohörerInnen einladen.
Mit: Krzysztof Topolski aka Arszyn, Adam Witkowski und Wojciech Kucharczyk für Gdansk; Chris Watson, Alan Dunn und Vergil Sharkya’ für Liverpool; Chantal Dumas, Laure Maternati und Thomas Lippens für Marseille; Burcin Elmas, Deniz Kologlu und Batur Sönmez for Istanbul; Roberto Paci Dalò, Olivier Féraud und Soundbarrier Collective für Napoli.
Ends & Entries wird als gesamte Reihe vom 17. bis 23. November parallel von Radio Grenouille in Marseille und Açik Radyo in Istanbul ausgestrahlt, in Teilen von National Radio Gdansk und BBC Liverpool - sowie in unterschiedlichen Formaten von den folgenden Mitgliedern des radia.fm KunstRadio-Netzwerks:

Listening into five European cities in transition: Ends & Entries is a series of fifteen 7-minutes sound pieces specially made for the radio by international sound artists about five cities: Liverpool, Marseille, Gdansk, Napoli and Istanbul, as part of the 'Cities on the edge' partnership. The project is curated by Etienne Noiseau for Radio Grenouille, a cultural radio station in Marseille, in the frame of its residency in Liverpool'08, November 2008.
The project is about the cities. All these cities are "ends" and "entries" of Europe, big ports, with a long history, more open to the international side than integrated to their own countries, of mixed population, industrial cities on decline that tend to take a second breath with culture.
It was decided to work on traditional music, food ('cuisine'), and migration; how music and food are cultural markers of identity; two things that we all "carry" with ourselves and share or mix with whatever we find in the place we are.
In each city, artists who live or work there deal with the subject and present their own perception of the city through the chosen thematics using their own expressivity through sound.

zur buchmesse lautet unser motto: damenwahl. welche lektüre sich das gesittete frauenzimmer unserer tage wünschen würde, wissen wir zwar nicht. aber dafür umso genauer, was wir uns wünschen:
eine neue frauenzeitschrift. wie bitte? doch, ganz genau. und dieser tage erscheint sie auch: das missy magazin!
mrs. pepstein - unsere radio-kollegin, die bei radio blau leipzig regelmässig in mrs. pepsteins wunderbare wilde welt einlädt - hat bei den macherinnen von missy nachgefragt.
chris köver und stefanie lohaus - zusammen mit sonja eismann das gründungsteam des magazins - geben sich bzw. ihr und nun uns die ehre eines interviews, in dem wir erfahren können, was wir immer schon über die einzig wahre frauenzeitschrift wissen wollten,aber nie zu fragen wagten. oder so ähnlich.
eine stunde mit mrs. pepstein und ihren interview-gästen ist jedenfalls genau das richtige, um die wartezeit zu überbrücken, bis wir das missy magazin endlich selbst in den händen halten, lustvoll blättern und natürlich lesen können.

mrs. pepstein - our radio colleague usually inviting radio blau's listeners from leipzig to join mrs. pepstein's wonderful weird world - talked to the makers of missy mag:
chris köver and stefanie lohaus - together with sonja eismann the missy core team - grace her and now us with anwers and a peak preview into THE new women's mag of today.
spending one hour with mrs. pepstein and her all star guests and (not to forget:) a great choice of great music is the best we can do while waiting for the day to come...

autophones (in) concert
autophon heisst wörtlich übersetzt: selbstklinger.
ein solches autophones entdeckte der kanadische percussionist michael gambacurta beim jogging, als er über die kaiserleibrücke zwischen frankfurt und offenbach lief.
der verkehrslärm verwandelte sich in seinen ohren in musik. denn die unaufhörlich rollenden lastwagen und autos bringen die brücke ebenso zum schwingen wie der wind oder sogar regen, der auf die metallstreben prasselt.
mit kontaktmikrophonen sammelte gambacurta zu verschiedenen tages- und nachtzeiten die klänge und gesänge der kaiserleibrücke ein.
gemeinsam mit dem komponisten matthias s. krüger hat gambacurta das gesammelte klangmaterial zu einem hörstück verarbeitet: autophones.
auf dieser basis wiederum ist in folge in zusammenarbeit mit yuki higashino eine klang-raum-installation entstanden, die vom 19. bis 21. september im rahmen des festival junger talente im hafen offenbach vis à vis der kaiserleibrücke präsentiert wird.
in kooperation mit radio x/GUNST hat autophones eine erweiterung ins radio erfahren: ab dem 15.09. wurden für eine woche lang kleine hörstücke mit ausschnitten aus dem brückenkonzert zu verschiedenen sendezeiten ins programm gestreut.
GUNSTradio spielt das (auto-)radiokonzert in voller laenge (uraufführung) und stellt die beiden komponisten vor.

an autophone produces sounds on its own.
the canadian percussionist michael gambacurta discovered an autophone when he was jogging over the kaiserlei bridge between frankfurt and offenbach. traffic noises transformed into music in his ears: vehicles rolling over the bridge, as well as wind and weathers made the metal strings vibrate and sing.
with contact microphones gambacurta collected the sounds, some during the days, others during the nights.
together with the composer matthias s. krüger he coverted the collected sounds into a work of sound art.
and based upon the composition, together with yuki higashino he created an audio-visual installation presented in the framework of festival junger talente at hafen offenbach, vis à vis kaiserlei bridge.
additionally, in cooperation with radio x/GUNST autophones has been extended into radiophonic space.
from september 15th onwards, small excerpts of the radio piece are broadcasted.
GUNSTradio proudly presents the full lenght (auto)radio concert and introduces the two composers together with their work.

I AM NOT DEAD BUT I AM DIVIDED: eine ausstellung, performance und geisterbahn.
von und mit studierenden der städelschule, der kunstakademie düsseldorf, der hochschule für musik und darstellende kunst frankfurt am main, der udk berlin, der hmt rostock, der zhdk zürich und des max reinhardt seminars wien.
und eine live radio/kunst/performance show.
anliegen des projekts ist es die Wurzeln der performancekunst durch einen bezug zum leben des französischen dichters, morphiumabhängigen und psychatrieinsassen antonin artaud zu untersuchen, der im paris der 1920er jahre das theater der grausamkeit erfand.
sein leben und werk werden mit mitteln moderner überwachungstechnik und öffentlichen interventionen neu in szene gesetzt.
alle beteiligten leben und arbeiten für die dauer des projekts im satellit neben dem frankfurter kunstverein, um die abschliessende performance in einem intimen und psychotischen prozess zu entwickeln, welcher
jederzeit vom publikum und zufällig vorbei laufenden passanten unterbrochen werden darf und soll.
das ende der ausstellung ist zugleich die erste präsentation des dramatischen resultats, das der zuschauer als teilnehmer einer
geisterbahn erleben kann.
das projekt findet von freitag, 29.08.08 bis freitag, 12.09.08 im satellit der galerie anita beckers am römerberg/braubachstrasse 15 statt.
vor der eigentlichen eröffnung und feierlichen gründung des taheter unkst am 29.08. um 19 uhr laden wir von 14-15 uhr zur radio/kunst/performance auf der radio x-bühne am museumsuferfest (holbeinsteg/am städel).

by and with students of städelschule frankfurt, düsseldorf art academy, academy of music and performing arts frankfurt, university of arts berlin, academy of music and theatre rostock, zurich academy of arts and max reinhardt seminar vienna.
and eine live radio/art/performance show.
the aim of this project is to refer to the roots of performance by investigating into the life of the french writer, morphine addict and psychiatry patient antonin artaud.
all participants live for the duration of the exhibition in the gallery space and develop the outcome in an intimate and psychotic atmosphere, which can and should be interrupted by the public.
the end of the show is the first presentation of the final dramatic result, which is supposed to be shown in theaters and performance venues.
the project takes place from friday, august 29th till friday, september 12th in the satellit space of anita beckers gallery (römerberg/braubachstrasse 15).
in advance of the opening and offical formation of taheter unkst on friday, august 29th at 7 pm you are invited to witness a radio/art/performance taking place the same afternoon from 2pm to 3pm on radio x-stage at museumsufer festival (holbeinsteg/am städel).

ein zweistündiges GUNSTradio-special aus anlass des diesjährigen AV festival in Newcastle, das zugleich eine kleine vorschau auf das neue internationale format radiator x gibt (ab märz jeden 1.,2., 3. und 5. freitag von 15-16 uhr auf radio x).
die sendung wird dort im rahmen eines von von knut aufermann kuratiert kunstradio-programms ausgestrahlt.
das AV festival hat in diesem jahr das thema "broadcast" - dem wir uns natürlich gerne anschliessen. wortwörtlich genommen bedeutet "broadcast": senden im alten stil. aber was sind das eigentlich für signale, die wir da empfangen? wer sendet sie aus?
miss.gunst lädt dazu ein, die ohren zu spitzen und ganz genau hinzuhören...
