Jemand dreht am Sendersuchknopf eines Radiogerätes. Könnte ein Weltempfänger sein. Klangfragmente, weißes Rauschen, Sprachfetzen, französisch, holländisch, ein Marsch, „Smoke on the Water“, die Sex Pistols, noch ein Marsch und dann „Rat Race“ von den Specials. Plötzlich wird der Aus-Knopf gedrückt und Kevin Rowland ruft „Big Jimmy!“. „Yeah!“ antwortet seine Band. Rowland: „Now!“ Band: „Yeah!“. „For God sake, burn it down.” Jetzt bekommt Rowland seine Antwort von einem attackierenden Bläsersatz, angeführt vom Posaunisten Big Jim Paterson.
Wenn man diese knappe Minute mal zusammenfasst, dann heißt das natürlich: Alles scheiße außer Dexys!
Und so beginnt „Burn It Down“, der erste Song auf “Searching for the young Soul Rebels”, dem Debut-Album der Dexys Midnight Runners. Und so begann 1997 meine erste „Superstar Rotation“-Sendung aus der Schützenstraße.
Das Lied war damals schon 17 Jahre alt, und ein bisschen steht es für die Art und Weise, wie ich meine Sendung mache: Ein leicht großmäuliger white-middle-class Soulboy, gefangen zwischen jetzt und schon ganz schön lange her, der Euch sagt, wo es lang geht.
Na ja.
Jetzt geht es also erst mal in neue Räume, in ein neues Viertel am anderen Ende der Stadt. Aber ganz egal, wie es dort sein wird - mir bleiben immer noch zwei Stunden im Monat, in denen ich all das spielen kann, was ich liebe.
Darum „Goodbye“ Schützenstraße und „Hallo“ Kurfürstenstraße. Oder zusammengefasst: Alles scheiße außer Radio X!
